Achieving the dream: step by step

The publishing process is directed by chief editors, producers and company owners Netanel and Osnat Semrik. We take full and personal responsibility for the publication of your book and we undertake to support you in every possible way, and to maintain open lines of communication with the most important person in the process – you, the author.

Ghost writer – You have an important story to tell, yet can’t manage to transform your ideas into the written word. Our ghost writers are expert communicators and leaders in the field with the skills to absorb what you want to say and process it into an edited text that will then be sent to you for your comments.

Literary editing – After a thorough reading of your initial manuscript, the literary editor will help you to polish the story to its best potential. Our job is to guide you, to bring out the best in you to create the most readable and powerful story in its written form.

This important part of the process is conducted with direct communication and collaboration between the editor and author, at face-to-face meetings or by phone or email at your convenience. By the end of this stage, we will have a completed manuscript that is to the satisfaction of both you and your editor.

Language editing – A professional language editor then conducts a final examination of the manuscript to ensure that the text retains the style and content of the author but is free of grammatical errors.

Translation – At Contento de Semrik, we work with the best literary translators in all languages, including English, German, Russian, Spanish, Italian and more, to translate your story for an international audience.

Translation editing and proofreading – Following the translation, an experienced proofreader will examine the text one more time in order to make sure that no proofreading and editing errors or spelling mistakes have found their way into the translated text. At the end of this stage, the manuscript is complete and we are ready to build the text into a book.

The second stage: creating the book

Illustration – We rely on the best illustrators in the industry, who offer a range of styles and techniques to complement your story. You will enjoy direct and open communication with your illustrator to ensure the text and illustrations work in perfect harmony. In addition to providing superb illustrations for children’s books, our illustrators can also contribute drawings and artistic elements to enhance books for an adult audience.

Layout & design – Our layout design team is involved in the creation of the internal pages of your book, such as the page layout style, selection of font style and size, paragraph and chapter styles and division, headers and footers, index layout, contents page, and much more.

Cover design – The cover of your book is a crucial element in its market potential. Our team of cover designers has designed dozens of covers of best-selling books, and they consistently follow market trends so they know what cover styles are popular and effective. They will work in consultation with you to design a cover that will create an impact yet also reflects the personality of your book. At this stage, we will complete the final composition of the blurb and marketing text for the back cover, and will also arrange for the purchase of an international catalog number (ISBN).

Cover redesign for foreign language editions – Different markets demand different approaches. If your book has been translated, we will redesign the book cover in order to maximize its sales potential for a world market. The blurb and marketing text will also be translated, and every aspect of the final design will be made in consultation with our international sales agents, with their expert knowledge of local markets.

Production management – The production and printing process is managed by one of the industry’s leading book producers with experience in the production of thousands of books. The production manager and the team is available at all times should you wish to consult on any issue during this stage.

Printing – The printing process is conducted with the highest quality paper and binding in some of the world’s leading printing houses in the UK or USA. This is the moment that your story has finally evolved into a book, ready to take its place on the shelves of bookstores across the globe.

Adaptation of books for television, cinema and games – With two decades of experience in the adaptation of books for a range of media, we possess the skills to create unique formats from your manuscript, transforming it into scripts for cinema or television, or content for games and other entertainment applications. In addition, we will manage every aspect of the procedures for securing commercial rights for your story.

Distribution

Marketing & distribution at global book fairs – At least twice a year, the most influential names in the global publishing industry gather at exhibitions in London, Frankfurt and Tokyo, together with representatives of more than a hundred countries, publishers and international agents. Contento de Semrik will present and distribute your book at these fairs, where it will receive exposure to the largest pool of potential agents, customers and representatives who can explore the possibility of purchasing the translation and distribution rights in every corner of the globe.

Distribution by Print On Demand (POD) – Your book will be featured in the digital catalogs of the world’s leading bookstores, where it will enjoy healthy exposure to heavy customer traffic. When an order is placed for your book, we print it at a high quality printing house in the USA or UK, and forward it direct to the customer by air or surface mail, within the time frame or number of business days specified by the store where your book was purchased.

E-book digital distribution – Our book titles are purchased by some of the world’s leading specialist online e-book stores. Your book will receive a high level of exposure on the Internet, where it can be purchased in electronic format for computers, laptops and reading applications such as Sony Reader, Amazon Kindle, and more.
